post 2009 letter

August 22, 2009

Dear People,

One of the current favorite phrases in our house is a paraphrase of the old joke: Q: "How do you get to Carnegie Hall?" A: "Practice, practice, practice." The girls get a kick out of applying it to all occasions and it occurs to me that it is especially applicable to our position as students of Christian Scientists.

How do I feel closer to God?How do I make the Bible Lesson come alive for me?How do I strengthen my faith? How do I keep the "mountaintop" sense of life we found in class?"Practice, practice, practice."

Or as Mrs. Eddy put it: "The song of Christian Science is, 'Work - work - work - watch and pray." ('00 2:7-8)

It's not an onerous or burdensome thing. Practice and the repetition of good in thought and action is an investment in our spiritual history - the manifestation of what is lasting and meaningful. It is like the gift that keeps on giving! And truly, the "work" of Christian Science is simply a commitment to life itself - real life, as Jesus promised when he said, "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." (John 10:10)

There are two new items in our fruitage section that illustrates this and reminds us that right where human expectation limits and condemns, divine Mind unfolds the substance of God's good. This is what is natural too us, whether we are just out of class or "experienced Christian Scientists". It is true in a cow pasture, true at home, at work and even true at church; Mind's supremacy is true regardless of so-called material conditions. God can always "furnish a tale in the wilderness" and our "work" is to stay awake and alive to this fact.

In her time, Mrs. Eddy had to contend with the very aggressive threat that both the union of her country and the place of Christianity and religion in society might be irreparably damaged or completely lost. The Civil War taught her invaluable lessons about how to work, watch and pray for a nation. Her persistent struggle to publish and preserve the revelation of Christian Science shows us all we need to know about praying for church.

The Quote for August (in the Quotes section of the website) reminds us of the need to treat suggestions of divisiveness and discouragement regarding government and church in a Christianly scientific way. It assures us that we are not red or blue partisans, we don't live in the paradigm espoused by any media commentator. Nor are we victims of the old Chinese curse: "May you live in interesting times" (specifically a time when religion is supposedly either defined by human extremism or relegated to obscurity as irrelevant). As Paul said to his sceptical Athenian audience: "God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: For in him we live, and move, and have our being;" (Acts 17:24-28)

Enjoy the fruitage; be encouraged by it, inspired to share some of your own and most of all reminded that the fruits of our practice are not the results of human effort, but a natural effect of Life, Truth and Love recognized and cherished.

thanksgiving/christmas letter 2009

Dear People,Today is the start of the Advent season; a period, set aside by the traditional church, of spiritual preparation for celebrating the nativity of Jesus. The idea was that Christians should spend this month at the end of the year in expectant waiting, getting ready for the second coming of Christ while commemorating his first coming.

We are, perhaps, more familiar with this time of year as Black Friday - Cyber Monday. The coming period is daily proclaimed as so many shopping days left before Christmas (and the inevitable post-Christmas blow-out sales).

Christian Scientists do not engage in the ceremonies and rituals of the liturgical year. But that does not mean that these things don't occupy our hearts and minds. Christmas is a daily cherishing of the babe of spiritual healing, Easter is the morning meal with the risen Jesus that we make our everyday basis. Saint's days and feast days are the continual recognition that we live in the "communion of saints" - that we stand on the shoulders of those who have gone before and that we are not alone.

Likewise, Christian Scientists are not carried away by the ceremonies and rituals of the secular year because they are fully occupied with spiritual preparation all year. Our hearts and minds are not divided between two masters; we have one, God, good, and will bow to no other.

It is easy to lose sight, in the midst of worldly busy-ness, that our most important job is to find ourselves in the way the Master, Christ Jesus did; trusting God for all things, being "wise as serpents, and harmless as doves," "trying the spirits," and taking away the sins of the world. And yet we are daily confronted with the pressing need to engage more deeply, think more clearly, and love more freely, so that we can meet the spiritual demand of these times and not sleep-walk through life in the Adam-dream. This work begins in the closet of prayer but is by no means passive, nor, I think we are all beginning to realize, is it optional.

A friend recently likened Christian Science teaching to learning carpentry. If you want to learn wood-working you find out what the tools are and how to use them. You try them out under the supervision of someone who knows how they work and what they can do, and then you take them home. And, as with the tools you found and skills you learned during the two weeks of class instruction, once you're home with your hammer and screwdriver and saw, what are you going to do with them?

"Some people," he said, "put them up on a shelf and never take them out again. Others take them down once in awhile for an occasional job, if it seems easy, but tend to call a professional for most needs. Of course, there are those that actually use them on a regular basis and become pretty decent carpenters themselves."

The need for more consecrated and genuine Christian engagement has become obvious even to the casual observer. Mary Baker Eddy rightly declared, "This material world is even now becoming the arena for conflicting forces. On one side there will be discord and dismay; on the other side there will be Science and peace. The breaking up of material beliefs may seem to be famine and pestilence, want and woe, sin, sickness and death, which assume new phases until their nothingness appears... As this consummation draws nearer, he who has shaped his course in accordance with divine Science will endure to the end." (S&H pgs 96-97)

Mrs. Eddy also told us, that when confronted with Truth and with its own implicit nothingness, error would "scream, until its inarticulate sound is forever silenced in oblivion."

That scream is being heard in the social, civil, criminal, political and religious arenas today as mortal mind flails about trying to find truth in matter. There is no middle ground between Spirit and matter that we can occupy. For our own sakes and for the sake of the world, we need to be practicing "carpenters".

And so, this year, I am sending your Association Assignment early*. Let's celebrate the Advent together, get engaged and busy with spiritual preparation and bring in the coming new year with the new man and nothing less!with love,

Caryl

Association Assignment 2009-2010

Mary Baker Eddy suggested to her students that they spend 4 hours a day in prayer. This was her sense of what was required individually and to further the cause of Christian Science. As we said on the first day of class, we are Mrs. Eddy’s students, and so this recommendation is to us.We are all aware that not many of her students have taken her advice to heart, but we also know the wonderful growth and healing that accompanies any increase in time devoted to prayer. My request of you this year, is that you do what Mrs. Eddy once directed Judge Hannah to do: pray for yourself for one hour, first thing in the morning. To get started: review the chapter on prayer in Science and Health and the following citations:I John 4:1Matt 6:6Deut 6:5Psalm 23S&H 15:14-18S&H 262:2-5 (to 3rd ,)S&H 15:25-26S&H 103:1-2 scientificS&H 255:1-3 As

I’ll be updating the website so that you will be able to check in and find more citations, links to helpful articles and thoughts on prayer. As you do this work, please send your own thoughts and experiences as you go along. We are all in this together. There is nothing more important for us to be doing and as we undertake this work, coming together in our “first love,” our awe of Spirit, God, we will find Christ in the midst of us.Let’s conclude with Mrs. Eddy’s words to us:“What will you do about it? Will you be equally in earnest for the Truth? Will you doff your lavender-kid zeal and become real and consecrated warriors? Will you give yourselves wholly and irrevocably to the great work of establishing the Truth, the Gospel, and the Science which are necessary to the salvation of the world from error, sin, disease, and death? Answer at once and practically, and answer aright!” (Mis 177)

pre-association letter

Dear People,I am looking forward to our homecoming on May 22nd.Spring has arrived in Madison, and the budding flowers and trees speak of life renewed. Renewal is what we are all about. Mrs. Eddy wrote: "Our baptism is a purification from all error. Our church is built on the divine Principle, Love. We can unite with this church only as we are new‐born of Spirit, as we reach the Life which is Truth and the Truth which is Life by bringing forth the fruits of Love, — casting out error and healing the sick." (S&H 35:19-25) Association day is part of the natural expression of our God-given desire to be partakers of Truth and Love. It's our time to focus on what is most important to us.

Some years ago, a lecturer was invited to a Christian Science church to give an inspirational talk. The membership had requested she address them on the subject of animal magnetism. This, they all felt, was thwarting their progress as practicing Christian Scientists; they wanted to see more healing, more unity in church, more evidence of God's presence and power. These things were lacking; what else could explain it?

The speaker prepared the talk and sent out study citations. But when the time for the talk arrived and she stepped up to the podium before the congregation, she suddenly realized that something quite different was what was actually needed. She put away her notes and spoke for an hour on the meaning of prayer. She later explained that as she faced the audience, it had come to her that the only way to open the doorway to more healing, more unity in church and more evidence of God's presence and power, was to get back to the basics of prayer, as understood in Christian Science. If you had asked them before the talk if they knew what prayer was, all those attending would have said, "Of course!" But when they left that day, they all felt as if a veil had been lifted and that the way was much clearer and brighter. Enthusiastic testimonies on subsequent Wednesday evenings showed that prayer had come alive for this congregation.

A recent article in the New York Times on the direction of the Christian Science movement showed substantial confusion about the treatment of disease through prayer. But the confusion is not merely a case of journalistic errors. You could say that the writing indicates the influence of animal magnetism (as Robert Peel put it: that's the "hard fact that thinking rooted in material appearances has no intention of acknowledging a transcendent spiritual power that challenged its own legitimacy." - or, as Mrs. Eddy puts it: "a bland denial of truth"). But this seeming-influence can only be overcome through clarity about and demonstration of what it means to pray in Christian Science. Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures explains: "The question, What is Truth, is answered by demonstration, — by healing both disease and sin; and this demonstration shows that Christian healing confers the most health and makes the best men. On this basis Christian Science will have a fair fight." (S&H viii:12-16)

Looking back over the past century of articles on prayer and treatment in the Christian Science periodicals, one finds conflicting explanations of these terms. But Mary Baker Eddy's writings are remarkably clear on the subject. Looking deeply into what our Leader has to say about scientific prayer and the way it treats "all the ills that flesh is heir to," the "how-to" of prayer comes into focus. As we said on the first day of class, "Christian Scientists are the people whose God is All-in-all;" our prayer begins and ends with God.

The assignment (which was sent out in December) asked you to spend an hour of your day in prayer for yourself. Please share with us what your work on the assignment has uncovered and unfolded to you. Questions are most welcome as are accounts of difficulties you may have encountered as you took up the work. Of course, fruitage is always welcome!

I look forward to seeing you next month and looking deeply into what it means to pray in Christian Science. Our address is titled, very appropriately, Living Prayer, and it couldn't come at a better time!

See you at the Christian Science Student Organization building at 315 N. Mills Street, on Saturday, May 22, 2010. Our business meeting begins at 9:00 a.m. and the address starts at 9:15 a.m.

Living Prayer:

"Whither shall I go from thy spirit?"

Ps 139:7Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?

Ex 3:1-5Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb. And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.

Mis. 158:19-22All God's servants are minute men and women. As of old, I stand with sandals on and staff in hand, waiting for the watchword and the revelation of what, how, whither.

S&H 242:9There is but one way to heaven, harmony, and Christ in divine Science shows us this way. It is to know no other reality — to have no other consciousness of life — than good, God and His reflection, and to rise superior to the so-called pain and pleasure of the senses.

Ps. 91:1He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

My. 244:15-19The "secret place," whereof David sang, is unquestionably man's spiritual state in God's own image and likeness, even the inner sanctuary of divine Science, in which mortals do not enter without a struggle or sharp experience, and in which they put off the human for the divine.

SH 66:9-10 Through,11-14Through great tribulation we enter the kingdom.

Spiritual development germinates not from seed sown in the soil of material hopes, but when these decay, Love propagates anew the higher joys of Spirit, which have no taint of earth.

S&H 253:32-6The divine demand, "Be ye therefore perfect," is scientific, and the human footsteps leading to perfection are indispensable. Individuals are consistent who, watching and praying, can "run, and not be weary; . . . walk, and not faint," who gain good rapidly and hold their position, or attain slowly and yield not to discouragement.

Luke 9:62And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

S&H 264:9-10, 13-15Where shall the gaze rest but in the unsearchable realm of Mind?

As mortals gain more correct views of God and man, multitudinous objects of creation, which before were invisible, will become visible.

S&H 494:25Which of these two theories concerning man are you ready to accept? One is the mortal testimony, changing, dying, unreal. The other is the eternal and real evidence, bearing Truth's signet, its lap piled high with immortal fruits.

S&H 254:10When we wait patiently on God and seek Truth righteously, He directs our path. Imperfect mortals grasp the ultimate of spiritual perfection slowly; but to begin aright and to continue the strife of demonstrating the great problem of being, is doing much.

S&H 1:6Prayer, watching, and working, combined with self-immolation, are God's gracious means for accomplishing whatever has been successfully done for the Christianization and health of mankind.

Mis 127:7One thing I have greatly desired, and again earnestly request, namely, that Christian Scientists, here and elsewhere, pray daily for themselves; not verbally, nor on bended knee, but mentally, meekly, and importunately. When a hungry heart petitions the divine Father-Mother God for bread, it is not given a stone, — but more grace, obedience, and love. If this heart, humble and trustful, faithfully asks divine Love to feed it with the bread of heaven, health, holiness, it will be conformed to a fitness to receive the answer to its desire; then will flow into it the "river of His pleasure," the tributary of divine Love, and great growth in Christian Science will follow, — even that joy which finds one's own in another's good.

SH 2:5 thethe desire which goes forth hungering after righteousness is blessed of our Father, and it does not return unto us void.

Hymn 218Samuel LongfellowMISSIONARY CHANTHeinrich C. Zeuner

O Life that maketh all things new,The blooming earth, the thoughts of men;Our pilgrim feet, wet with Thy dew,In gladness hither turn again.

From hand to hand the greeting flows,From eye to eye the signals run,From heart to heart the bright hope glows,The seekers of the Light are one:

One in the freedom of the truth,One in the joy of paths untrod,One in the heart's perennial youth,One in the larger thought of God; —

The freer step, the fuller breath,The wide horizon's grander view; The sense of Life that knows no death, —The Life that maketh all things new.

All About God ("Our Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name")

Ex. 20:3-5 (to :)Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them:SH 351:16-21

We cannot bring out the practical proof of Christianity, which Jesus required, while error seems as potent and real to us as Truth, and while we make a personal devil and an anthropomorphic God our starting-points, — especially if we consider Satan as a being coequal in power with Deity, if not superior to Him.

S&H 340:15

"Thou shalt have no other gods before me." (Exodus xx. 3.) The First Commandment is my favorite text. It demonstrates Christian Science. It inculcates the tri-unity of God, Spirit, Mind; it signifies that man shall have no other spirit or mind but God, eternal good, and that all men shall have one Mind. The divine Principle of the First Commandment bases the Science of being, by which man demonstrates health, holiness, and life eternal. One infinite God, good, unifies men and nations; constitutes the brotherhood of man; ends wars; fulfils the Scripture, "Love thy neighbor as thyself;" annihilates pagan and Christian idolatry, — whatever is wrong in social, civil, criminal, political, and religious codes; equalizes the sexes; annuls the curse on man, and leaves nothing that can sin, suffer, be punished or destroyed.

SH 69:20-22 Do, 23-26 DoDo you keep the First Commandment? Do you have one God and creator, or is man a creator?"Do you teach that Spirit creates materially, or do you declare that Spirit is infinite, therefore matter is out of the question?"

Job 38:1-7 1st thethe Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said, Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge? Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me. Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding. Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it? Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof; When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

Ps. 62:11God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God.

Hab. 2:1 (to 3rd ,)I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me,

Isa. 8:17 1st I (to 1st ,)I will wait upon the Lord,

Isa. 8:17 2nd II will look for him.

SH 2:31-32 3rd God (to ;)God is "the same yesterday, and to-day, and forever;

S&H 465:8-10Question. — What is God?Answer. — God is incorporeal, divine, supreme, infinite Mind, Spirit, Soul, Principle, Life, Truth, Love.SH 286:16-19

In the Saxon and twenty other tongues good is the term for God. The Scriptures declare all that He made to be good, like Himself, — good in Principle and in idea.

Mis. 124:12-18 whowho is so great a God as our God!" unchangeable, all-wise, all-just, all-merciful; the ever-loving, ever-living Life, Truth, Love: comforting such as mourn, opening the prison doors to the captive, marking the unwinged bird, pitying with more than a father's pity; healing the sick, cleansing the leper, raising the dead, saving sinners.

Prov 3:5-6¶Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Isa 30:21And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.

Isa. 40:10Behold, the Lord God will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.

Un. 1:12The nature and character of God is so little apprehended and demonstrated by mortals, that I counsel my students to defer this infinite inquiry, in their discussions of Christian Science. In fact, they had better leave the subject untouched, until they draw nearer to the divine character, and are practically able to testify, by their lives, that as they come closer to the true understanding of God they lose all sense of error.

Job 11:7-8 (to 1st ?)Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection? It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do?

Ps. 22:9 1st thouthou art he that took me out of the womb: thou didst make me hope when I was upon my mother's breasts.

’01 31:20-24 (to ;)Among the list of blessings infinite I count these dear: Devout orthodox parents; my early culture in the Congregational Church; the daily Bible reading and family prayer; my cradle hymn and the Lord's Prayer, repeated at night;

S&H 16:26-29Our Father which art in heaven, Our Father-Mother God, all-harmonious, Hallowed be Thy name. Adorable One.

Hea. 15:28-16:3The Lord's Prayer, understood in its spiritual sense, and given its spiritual version, can never be repeated too often for the benefit of all who, having ears, hear and understand.

The Kingdom Within ("Thy kingdom come")

S&H 16:30-31Thy kingdom come. Thy kingdom is come; Thou art ever-present.

Luke 17:20-21¶And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

SH 590:1kingdom of heaven. The reign of harmony in divine Science; the realm of unerring, eternal, and omnipotent Mind; the atmosphere of Spirit, where Soul is supreme.

SH 560:10-11Heaven represents harmony, and divine Science interprets the Principle of heavenly harmony.

SH 561:8-9The Revelator beheld the spiritual idea from the mount of vision.

SH 573:3The Revelator was on our plane of existence, while yet beholding what the eye cannot see, — that which is invisible to the uninspired thought. This testimony of Holy Writ sustains the fact in Science, that the heavens and earth to one human consciousness, that consciousness which God bestows, are spiritual, while to another, the unillumined human mind, the vision is material. This shows unmistakably that what the human mind terms matter and spirit indicates states and stages of consciousness.

SH 573:13Accompanying this scientific consciousness was another revelation, even the declaration from heaven, supreme harmony, that God, the divine Principle of harmony, is ever with men, and they are His people. Thus man was no longer regarded as a miserable sinner, but as the blessed child of God. Why? Because St. John's corporeal sense of the heavens and earth had vanished, and in place of this false sense was the spiritual sense, the subjective state by which he could see the new heaven and new earth, which involve the spiritual idea and consciousness of reality. This is Scriptural authority for concluding that such a recognition of being is, and has been, possible to men in this present state of existence, — that we can become conscious, here and now, of a cessation of death, sorrow, and pain. This is indeed a foretaste of absolute Christian Science. Take heart, dear sufferer, for this reality of being will surely appear sometime and in some way. There will be no more pain, and all tears will be wiped away. When you read this, remember Jesus' words, "The kingdom of God is within you." This spiritual consciousness is therefore a present possibility.

Matt 18:1-4At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

SH 8:28-30We should examine ourselves and learn what is the affection and purpose of the heart, for in this way only can we learn what we honestly are.

SH 364:16-19Here is suggested a solemn question, a question indicated by one of the needs of this age. Do Christian Scientists seek Truth as Simon sought the Saviour, through material conservatism and for personal homage?

SH 364:25-28 (to ,),28 IfOn the other hand, do they show their regard for Truth, or Christ, by their genuine repentance, by their broken hearts, expressed by meekness and human affection,

If so, then it may be said of them, as Jesus said of the unwelcome visitor, that they indeed love much, because much is forgiven them.

SH 451:2Christian Scientists must live under the constant pressure of the apostolic command to come out from the material world and be separate. They must renounce aggression, oppression and the pride of power. Christianity, with the crown of Love upon her brow, must be their queen of life.

SH 322:30-31Without this process of weaning, "Canst thou by searching find out God?"

Matt. 13:33 TheThe kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.

SH 322:32Mortals may seek the understanding of Christian Science, but they will not be able to glean from Christian Science the facts of being without striving for them. This strife consists in the endeavor to forsake error of every kind and to possess no other consciousness but good.

SH 476:29-32 TheThe kingdom of God is within you;" that is, Truth and Love reign in the real man, showing that man in God's image is unfallen and eternal.

SH 533:26Truth, cross-questioning man as to his knowledge of error, finds woman the first to confess her fault. She says, "The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat;" as much as to say in meek penitence, "Neither man nor God shall father my fault." She has already learned that corporeal sense is the serpent. Hence she is first to abandon the belief in the material origin of man and to discern spiritual creation. This hereafter enabled woman to be the mother of Jesus and to behold at the sepulchre the risen Saviour, who was soon to manifest the deathless man of God's creating. This enabled woman to be first to interpret the Scriptures in their true sense, which reveals the spiritual origin of man.

SH 517:10 InIn divine Science, we have not as much authority for considering God masculine, as we have for considering Him feminine, for Love imparts the clearest idea of Deity.

SH 565:13-15 (to ,)The impersonation of the spiritual idea had a brief history in the earthly life of our Master; but "of his kingdom there shall be no end,

SH 565:18-22This immaculate idea, represented first by man and, according to the Revelator, last by woman, will baptize with fire; and the fiery baptism will burn up the chaff of error with the fervent heat of Truth and Love, melting and purifying even the gold of human character.

My. 161:14-18He who gains self-knowledge, self-control, and the kingdom of heaven within himself, within his own consciousness, is saved through Christ, Truth. Mortals must drink sufficiently of the cup of their Lord and Master to unself mortality and to destroy its erroneous claims.

Un 51:20-22;52:4-7The Ego is divine consciousness, eternally radiating throughout all space in the idea of God, good, and not of His opposite, evil.

This Science of God and man is the Holy Ghost, which reveals and sustains the unbroken and eternal harmony of both God and the universe. It is the kingdom of heaven, the ever-present reign of harmony, already with us.

Ret 79:30-2We recognize this kingdom, the reign of harmony within us, by an unselfish affection or love, for this is the pledge of divine good and the insignia of heaven.

Hymn 204Based on the Swedish ofLina Sandell BergTHY KINGDOM COMEGunnar Wennerberg

O Father, Thy kingdom is come upon earth,Thou rulest in all Thy creation;Thou sendest Thy witnesses, telling Thy worth,To call and entreat every nation,With news of Thy mighty salvation.

They lift up a light amid shadows of fear,And Love is Thy banner above them;No trouble shall touch them, no foes that appearShall e'er from their loyalty move them;'Tis Thou dost uphold and approve them.

They go in Thy strength, and they speak in Thy name,With power of Thy promise forth faring,And during the battle the victory claim, —Their trust in Thy truth is their daring,Salvation to all men declaring.

S&H 17:1-3Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Enable us to know, — as in heaven, so on earth, — God is omnipotent, supreme.

Dan. 4:28-35¶All this came upon the king Nebuchadnezzar. At the end of twelve months he walked in the palace of the kingdom of Babylon. The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty? While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee. And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will. The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws. And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation: And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?

SH 82:31-2In a world of sin and sensuality hastening to a greater development of power, it is wise earnestly to consider whether it is the human mind or the divine Mind which is influencing one.

SH 273:4Human belief has sought out many inventions, but not one of them can solve the problem of being without the divine Principle of divine Science. Deductions from material hypotheses are not scientific. They differ from real Science because they are not based on the divine law.

SH 259:32Deducing one's conclusions as to man from imperfection instead of perfection, one can no more arrive at the true conception or understanding of man, and make himself like it, than the sculptor can perfect his outlines from an imperfect model, or the painter can depict the form and face of Jesus, while holding in thought the character of Judas.

Matt. 5:14-16Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Matt. 26:36,39-42¶Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder. And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.

Hymn 195Not what I am, O Lord, but what Thou art; That, that alone can be my soul's true rest;Thy love, not mine, bids fear and doubt depart,And stills the tumult of my troubled breast.

Mis. 179:31In 1866, when God revealed to me this risen Christ, this Life that knows no death, that saith, "Because he lives, I live," I awoke from the dream of Spirit in the flesh so far as to take the side of Spirit, and strive to cease my warfare.

S&H 454:5-9The understanding, even in a degree, of the divine All-power destroys fear, and plants the feet in the true path, — the path which leads to the house built without hands "eternal in the heavens."

S&H 325:2He who has the true idea of good loses all sense of evil, and by reason of this is being ushered into the undying realities of Spirit. Such a one abideth in Life, — life obtained not of the body incapable of supporting life, but of Truth, unfolding its own immortal idea. Jesus gave the true idea of being, which results in infinite blessings to mortals.

Matt. 22:35-40 1st aa lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

S&H 327:17To the physical senses, the strict demands of Christian Science seem peremptory; but mortals are hastening to learn that Life is God, good, and that evil has in reality neither place nor power in the human or the divine economy.

SH 144:18-20Human will-power may infringe the rights of man. It produces evil continually, and is not a factor in the realism of being.

S&H 111:3 II find the will, or sensuous reason of the human mind, to be opposed to the divine Mind as expressed through divine Science.

II Cor. 5:6-8 whilstwhilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

SH 14:6To be "present with the Lord" is to have, not mere emotional ecstasy or faith, but the actual demonstration and understanding of Life as revealed in Christian Science. To be "with the Lord" is to be in obedience to the law of God, to be absolutely governed by divine Love, — by Spirit, not by matter.

SH 261:2Look away from the body into Truth and Love, the Principle of all happiness, harmony, and immortality. Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts.

II Cor. 6:16 yeye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Ex. 16:3-4And the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger. ¶Then said the Lord unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.

Luke 11:11 (to 1st ?), 13If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

SH 17:4-5 Give (to 2nd ;)Give us this day our daily bread; Give us grace for to-day; feed the famished affections;

My. 196:25-27My Beloved Brethren: — The good in being, even the spiritually indispensable, is your daily bread. Work and pray for it.

Ret 91:17-20 we,21 Towe see Jesus ministering to the spiritual needs of all who placed themselves under his care, always leading them into the divine order, under the sway of his own perfect understanding.

To the students whom he had chosen, his immortal teaching was the bread of Life. When he was with them, a fishing-boat became a sanctuary, and the solitude was peopled with holy messages from the All-Father. The grove became his class-room, and nature's haunts were the Messiah's university.

SH 516:13The grass beneath our feet silently exclaims, "The meek shall inherit the earth." The modest arbutus sends her sweet breath to heaven. The great rock gives shadow and shelter. The sunlight glints from the church-dome, glances into the prison-cell, glides into the sick-chamber, brightens the flower, beautifies the landscape, blesses the earth. Man, made in His likeness, possesses and reflects God's dominion over all the earth. Man and woman as coexistent and eternal with God forever reflect, in glorified quality, the infinite Father-Mother God.

SH 35:26-27Our bread, "which cometh down from heaven," is Truth.

153:31Neither sympathy nor society should ever tempt us to cherish error in any form, and certainly we should not be error's advocate.

SH 3:17-24 WeWe admit theoretically that God is good, omnipotent, omnipresent, infinite, and then we try to give information to this infinite Mind. We plead for unmerited pardon and for a liberal outpouring of benefactions. Are we really grateful for the good already received? Then we shall avail ourselves of the blessings we have, and thus be fitted to receive more.

SH 2:31-3:5Asking God to be God is a vain repetition. God is "the same yesterday, and to-day, and forever;" and He who is immutably right will do right without being reminded of His province. The wisdom of man is not sufficient to warrant him in advising God.

Who would stand before a blackboard, and pray the principle of mathematics to solve the problem?

SH 1:6Prayer, watching, and working, combined with self-immolation, are God's gracious means for accomplishing whatever has been successfully done for the Christianization and health of mankind.

SH 326:16-21The purpose and motive to live aright can be gained now. This point won, you have started as you should. You have begun at the numeration-table of Christian Science, and nothing but wrong intention can hinder your advancement. Working and praying with true motives, your Father will open the way.

Hymn 90William WilliamsFrom his hymn in WelshCORINTHS. Webbe's Motetts or Antiphons, 1792

Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah,Pilgrim through this barren land:I am Thine, and Thou art mighty,Hold me with Thy powerful hand.Bread of heaven! Bread of heaven!Feed me now and evermore.

Open is the crystal fountain,Whence the healing waters flow; And the fiery cloudy pillarLeads me all my journey through.Strong Deliverer! Strong Deliverer!Still Thou art my strength and shield.

God's law is Love ("Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors")

Ps. 86:5 thouthou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.

Mis. xi:8While no offering can liquidate one's debt of gratitude to God, the fervent heart and willing hand are not unknown to nor unrewarded by Him.

Matt. 18:21-22¶Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.

Mark 11:25-26And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.

Mis 8:9-21Who is thine enemy that thou shouldst love him? Is it a creature or a thing outside thine own creation?

Can you see an enemy, except you first formulate this enemy and then look upon the object of your own conception? What is it that harms you? Can height, or depth, or any other creature separate you from the Love that is omnipresent good, — that blesses infinitely one and all?

Simply count your enemy to be that which defiles, defaces, and dethrones the Christ-image that you should reflect. Whatever purifies, sanctifies, and consecrates human life, is not an enemy, however much we suffer in the process.

SH 362:1-364:31It is related in the seventh chapter of Luke's Gospel that Jesus was once the honored guest of a certain Pharisee, by name Simon, though he was quite unlike Simon the disciple. While they were at meat, an unusual incident occurred, as if to interrupt the scene of Oriental festivity. A "strange woman" came in. Heedless of the fact that she was debarred from such a place and such society, especially under the stern rules of rabbinical law, as positively as if she were a Hindoo pariah intruding upon the household of a high-caste Brahman, this woman (Mary Magdalene, as she has since been called) approached Jesus. According to the custom of those days, he reclined on a couch with his head towards the table and his bare feet away from it. It was therefore easy for the Magdalen to come behind the couch and reach his feet. She bore an alabaster jar containing costly and fragrant oil, — sandal oil perhaps, which is in such common use in the East. Breaking the sealed jar, she perfumed Jesus' feet with the oil, wiping them with her long hair, which hung loosely about her shoulders, as was customary with women of her grade.

Did Jesus spurn the woman? Did he repel her adoration? No! He regarded her compassionately. Nor was this all. Knowing what those around him were saying in their hearts, especially his host, — that they were wondering why, being a prophet, the exalted guest did not at once detect the woman's immoral status and bid her depart, — knowing this, Jesus rebuked them with a short story or parable. He described two debtors, one for a large sum and one for a smaller, who were released from their obligations by their common creditor. "Which of them will love him most?" was the Master's question to Simon the Pharisee; and Simon replied, "He to whom he forgave most." Jesus approved the answer, and so brought home the lesson to all, following it with that remarkable declaration to the woman, "Thy sins are forgiven."

Why did he thus summarize her debt to divine Love? Had she repented and reformed, and did his insight detect this unspoken moral uprising? She bathed his feet with her tears before she anointed them with the oil. In the absence of other proofs, was her grief sufficient evidence to warrant the expectation of her repentance, reformation, and growth in wisdom? Certainly there was encouragement in the mere fact that she was showing her affection for a man of undoubted goodness and purity, who has since been rightfully regarded as the best man that ever trod this planet. Her reverence was unfeigned, and it was manifested towards one who was soon, though they knew it not, to lay down his mortal existence in behalf of all sinners, that through his word and works they might be redeemed from sensuality and sin.

Which was the higher tribute to such ineffable affection, the hospitality of the Pharisee or the contrition of the Magdalen? This query Jesus answered by rebuking self-righteousness and declaring the absolution of the penitent. He even said that this poor woman had done what his rich entertainer had neglected to do, — wash and anoint his guest's feet, a special sign of Oriental courtesy.

Here is suggested a solemn question, a question indicated by one of the needs of this age. Do Christian Scientists seek Truth as Simon sought the Saviour, through material conservatism and for personal homage? Jesus told Simon that such seekers as he gave small reward in return for the spiritual purgation which came through the Messiah. If Christian Scientists are like Simon, then it must be said of them also that they love little.

On the other hand, do they show their regard for Truth, or Christ, by their genuine repentance, by their broken hearts, expressed by meekness and human affection, as did this woman? If so, then it may be said of them, as Jesus said of the unwelcome visitor, that they indeed love much, because much is forgiven them.

SH 17:6-7 And (to ;)And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And Love is reflected in love;

SH 4:3-5,12-16What we most need is the prayer of fervent desire for growth in grace, expressed in patience, meekness, love, and good deeds.

The habitual struggle to be always good is unceasing prayer. Its motives are made manifest in the blessings they bring, — blessings which, even if not acknowledged in audible words, attest our worthiness to be partakers of Love.

Mis 336:1-4Mind is supreme: Love is the master of hate; Truth, the victor over a lie. Hath not Science voiced this lesson to you, — that evil is powerless, that a lie is never true?

II Cor. 10:3-4 thoughthough we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)

Mis. 11:31I would enjoy taking by the hand all who love me not, and saying to them, "I love you, and would not knowingly harm you." Because I thus feel, I say to others: Hate no one; for hatred is a plague-spot that spreads its virus and kills at last. If indulged, it masters us; brings suffering upon suffering to its possessor, throughout time and beyond the grave. If you have been badly wronged, forgive and forget: God will recompense this wrong, and punish, more severely than you could, him who has striven to injure you. Never return evil for evil; and, above all, do not fancy that you have been wronged when you have not been.

Mis. 13:1The only justice of which I feel at present capable, is mercy and charity toward every one, — just so far as one and all permit me to exercise these sentiments toward them, — taking special care to mind my own business.

Mis. 12:28We should measure our love for God by our love for man; and our sense of Science will be measured by our obedience to God, — fulfilling the law of Love, doing good to all; imparting, so far as we reflect them, Truth, Life, and Love to all within the radius of our atmosphere of thought.

Prayer and Treatment ("And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil")

James 1:13Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

John 5:31-32If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true. ¶There is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true.

Mis. 218:11It is erroneous to accept the evidence of the material senses whence to reason out God, when it is conceded that the five personal senses can take no cognizance of Spirit or of its phenomena. False realistic views sap the Science of Principle and idea; they make Deity unreal and inconceivable, either as mind or matter; but Truth comes to the rescue of reason and immortality, and unfolds the real nature of God and the universe to the spiritual sense, which beareth witness of things spiritual, and not material.

James 1:14 everyevery man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

Gal. 5:19-21 thethe works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Rom. 7:18-19For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.

SH 102:16-23The mild forms of animal magnetism are disappearing, and its aggressive features are coming to the front. The looms of crime, hidden in the dark recesses of mortal thought, are every hour weaving webs more complicated and subtle. So secret are the present methods of animal magnetism that they ensnare the age into indolence, and produce the very apathy on the subject which the criminal desires.

Mis 12:14-21The means for sinning unseen and unpunished have so increased that, unless one be watchful and steadfast in Love, one's temptations to sin are increased a hundredfold. Mortal mind at this period mutely works in the interest of both good and evil in a manner least understood; hence the need of watching, and the danger of yielding to temptation from causes that at former periods in human history were not existent.

Rom 7:24,25 (to 1st .)O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

SH 564:14-16 JesusJesus must have been tempted in all points, he, the immaculate, met and conquered sin in every form.

Matt. 4:1-11Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungered. And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

Luke 22:39-46¶And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him. And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation. And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed, Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him. And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground. And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow, And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.

SH 9:25-6Are you willing to leave all for Christ, for Truth, and so be counted among sinners? No! Do you really desire to attain this point? No! Then why make long prayers about it and ask to be Christians, since you do not care to tread in the footsteps of our dear Master? If unwilling to follow his example, why pray with the lips that you may be partakers of his nature? Consistent prayer is the desire to do right. Prayer means that we desire to walk and will walk in the light so far as we receive it, even though with bleeding footsteps, and that waiting patiently on the Lord, we will leave our real desires to be rewarded by Him.

The world must grow to the spiritual understanding of prayer.

SH 458:20-24,25 TheSin makes deadly thrusts at the Christian Scientist as ritualism and creed are summoned to give place to higher law, but Science will ameliorate mortal malice. The Christianly scientific man reflects the divine law, thus becoming a law unto himself.

The Christian Scientist wisely shapes his course, and is honest and consistent in following the leadings of divine Mind. He must prove, through living as well as healing and teaching, that Christ's way is the only one by which mortals are radically saved from sin and sickness.

SH 17:8-11 And (to .)And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; And God leadeth us not into temptation, but delivereth us from sin, disease, and death.

Ps. 20:6-7Now know I that the Lord saveth his anointed; he will hear him from his holy heaven with the saving strength of his right hand. Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.

SH 458:11It is anything but scientifically Christian to think of aiding the divine Principle of healing or of trying to sustain the human body until the divine Mind is ready to take the case. Divinity is always ready. Semper paratus is Truth's motto. Having seen so much suffering from quackery, the author desires to keep it out of Christian Science. The two-edged sword of Truth must turn in every direction to guard "the tree of life."

S&H 225:25The despotic tendencies, inherent in mortal mind and always germinating in new forms of tyranny, must be rooted out through the action of the divine Mind.

SH 108:30My discovery, that erring, mortal, misnamed mind produces all the organism and action of the mortal body, set my thoughts to work in new channels, and led up to my demonstration of the proposition that Mind is All and matter is naught as the leading factor in Mind-science.

SH 458:1Mental quackery rests on the same platform as all other quackery. The chief plank in this platform is the doctrine that Science has two principles in partnership, one good and the other evil, — one spiritual, the other material, — and that these two may be simultaneously at work on the sick. This theory is supposed to favor practice from both a mental and a material standpoint. Another plank in the platform is this, that error will finally have the same effect as truth.

S&H 185:26Erroneous mental practice may seem for a time to benefit the sick, but the recovery is not permanent. This is because erroneous methods act on and through the material stratum of the human mind, called brain, which is but a mortal consolidation of material mentality and its suppositional activities.

S&H 233:17-22Ye who can discern the face of the sky, — the sign material, — how much more should ye discern the sign mental, and compass the destruction of sin and sickness by overcoming the thoughts which produce them, and by understanding the spiritual idea which corrects and destroys them.

S&H 414:25Hold these points strongly in view. Keep in mind the verity of being, — that man is the image and likeness of God, in whom all being is painless and permanent. Remember that man's perfection is real and unimpeachable, whereas imperfection is blameworthy, unreal, and is not brought about by divine Love.

SH 495:14When the illusion of sickness or sin tempts you, cling steadfastly to God and His idea. Allow nothing but His likeness to abide in your thought. Let neither fear nor doubt overshadow your clear sense and calm trust, that the recognition of life harmonious — as Life eternally is — can destroy any painful sense of, or belief in, that which Life is not. Let Christian Science, instead of corporeal sense, support your understanding of being, and this understanding will supplant error with Truth, replace mortality with immortality, and silence discord with harmony.

Mis. 48:10It is enough for me to know that animal magnetism is neither of God nor Science.

S&H 288:3The suppositional warfare between truth and error is only the mental conflict between the evidence of the spiritual senses and the testimony of the material senses, and this warfare between the Spirit and flesh will settle all questions through faith in and the understanding of divine Love.

The Christian Science God ("For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.")

SH 140:23-27The Jewish tribal Jehovah was a man-projected God, liable to wrath, repentance, and human changeableness. The Christian Science God is universal, eternal, divine Love, which changeth not and causeth no evil, disease, nor death.

SH 70:4-5 thethe revelations of Christian Science unlock the treasures of Truth.

34:18-23Through all the disciples experienced, they became more spiritual and understood better what the Master had taught. His resurrection was also their resurrection. It helped them to raise themselves and others from spiritual dulness and blind belief in God into the perception of infinite possibilities.

Deut 4:39 Thethe Lord he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else.

S&H 124:25Spirit is the life, substance, and continuity of all things. We tread on forces. Withdraw them, and creation must collapse. Human knowledge calls them forces of matter; but divine Science declares that they belong wholly to divine Mind, are inherent in this Mind, and so restores them to their rightful home and classification.

SH 17:12 ForFor Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. For God is infinite, all-power, all Life, Truth, Love, over all, and All.

Rom 8:1,2,5 they,9 ye (to 1st .),11 If,28There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you.if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

II Cor 4:14-15 hehe which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you. For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God.

292:31In his resurrection and ascension, Jesus showed that a mortal man is not the real essence of manhood, and that this unreal material mortality disappears in presence of the reality.

Rev 21:1-6 (to 2nd .)And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end.

SH 502:24-27The infinite has no beginning. This word beginning is employed to signify the only, — that is, the eternal verity and unity of God and man, including the universe.

SH 565:13The impersonation of the spiritual idea had a brief history in the earthly life of our Master; but "of his kingdom there shall be no end," for Christ, God's idea, will eventually rule all nations and peoples — imperatively, absolutely, finally — with divine Science. This immaculate idea, represented first by man and, according to the Revelator, last by woman, will baptize with fire; and the fiery baptism will burn up the chaff of error with the fervent heat of Truth and Love, melting and purifying even the gold of human character. After the stars sang together and all was primeval harmony, the material lie made war upon the spiritual idea; but this only impelled the idea to rise to the zenith of demonstration, destroying sin, sickness, and death, and to be caught up unto God, — to be found in its divine Principle.

SH 496:9We all must learn that Life is God. Ask yourself: Am I living the life that approaches the supreme good? Am I demonstrating the healing power of Truth and Love? If so, then the way will grow brighter "unto the perfect day." Your fruits will prove what the understanding of God brings to man. Hold perpetually this thought, — that it is the spiritual idea, the Holy Ghost and Christ, which enables you to demonstrate, with scientific certainty, the rule of healing, based upon its divine Principle, Love, underlying, overlying, and encompassing all true being.
