Dear People,
Association day approaches and this year it would be most helpful if you did not leave the turning in of your assignments until the last moment.
I leave for Madison next Saturday and Primary Class begins the following Monday. Once class starts I will have considerably less time to work on the address, so my goal is to finish writing by Friday 8/7.
Which means that I’ll need your input before then!
Please send me whatever you have so far.
If you haven’t begun, pick five of the 63 “in proportion” citations, unpack them in terms of what they mean to you and what experience you may have had with what they imply, and send them as soon as possible.
The entire assignment (copying and responding to 63 study citations) should have taken the same amount of time that homework from two days of Class Instruction took you when you were going through Primary instruction. That is probably about 10 hours of work total, and, not to guilt you, but you had almost a full year to do that work.
Association assignments are one way to keep Class and your practice active and fresh. They are Mind’s provision for us; reflecting the spiritual demand.
That the assignment and the address are all about the need to devote time, thought, and energy to the practice of being a Christian Scientist, and the response that has come in so far has been so sparse, is something to think about. Again, for those who have not responded yet,I’m not trying to induce guilt, but I am asking you to consider how you are spending your waking hours.
My husband Joe used to say to people who called him for help in Science: "Be truly selfish: put your best interests first and allow God to be God to you.” Allowing God to be God to us does require engagement with Truth, attention to Mind, and submission to Love. Study, prayer, and putting what you find in your study and prayer into action is how that works.
In proportion as you do that will you find more and more of the kingdom of heaven right there where you are.
